LOVELY BLOODFLOW

... by Baths.

"baby lovely bloodflow
rustle these leaves
baby lovely bloodflow

ruffle these feathers"

NOT EVEN CLOSE

Morgan posted about espadrilles today. I expected to see a picture of one of these guys, but a shoe is not an echidna (as the old saying goes).

KATE BUSH

I was pleasantly surprised to see Kate on the cover of Uncut, which celebrates the 25 year anniversary of her masterpiece 1984 album the Hounds of Love. It blew my mind when I first heard it years ago and it permanently lodged itself in my top 10 (or 5 or 1, depending on my mood). It is an artist at the peak of her abilities, writing, playing, singing and producing her ass off. Its a crazy mash of piano, drum machines, choirs, samples, cellos, guitars, celtic instruments and on and on. She was 19 when her first album came out in 77 and she was pressured into doing a kind of exploitive photo shoot. From then on she took total control of her career: she built her own music studio, her brother took all her pictures, she stopped touring, rarely does interviews, and puts out albums with glacier speed. Her name gets dropped by people like Bjork, OutKast, Bloc Party, Prince etc etc. So she's basically a genius and kind of a weirdo, and a hero of mine for sure. Here are a few songs of hers for you to peep.       Go buy Hounds of Love.

SUNNYSIDE CAN SLEEP SOUNDLY

The emblem on the hood is an X made up of the silhouettes of a shotgun and a machete.

WALTON FORD

I'm writing a paper on Walton Ford, "an American artist who paints large scale watercolors in the style of Audubon's naturalist illustrations. Each painting is a meticulous study in flora and fauna, while being filled with symbols, clues and jokes referencing a multitude of texts from colonial literature and folktales to travel guides. Ford's paintings are complex narratives that critique the history of colonialism, industrialism, politics, natural science, and man's effect on the environment" (Wikipedia).
It gave me an excuse to order the awesome Pancha Tantra; a retrospective of his work that Taschen put out and which I've been lusting after for years. The pics do not do it justice; it is a brute of a thing. 12X15", 320 pages, 2 inches thick and heavy enough to stun a charging rhino. It arrived today. When opened the plastic wrap I was greeted by New Book Aroma.

THE WINNER

Hey, you remember my entry for the radio station CD cover:
- well, a winner has been chosen. It's not mine, but I thought you'd like to have a look at who won the $2,500.00:
