GUITAR DOCTOR

This was a project that involved following someone around for a day and photographing them, using the photographs as a basis for 4 paintings. I hung out with a couple luthiers; here is the process of one of the 4 paintings.

I started with a black and white study, then a color study. These are both pretty small, like 2.5 X 4". The third one down is a larger version, maybe 8 X 10.

And here's the final painting below. 12 X 16 acrylic on board.
Working with blue as the base color, I tried to push it as far as I
could toward "shapes" without it becoming completely abstract.

If you click it, it will big.

BACKSTAGE

Here's a little before and after. You can see in the rough that I wanted the robot to be holding something. A cow is about was the size I needed the object to be.
If clicking is what you would do,
bigness is what would happen!

GOOD NEWS/BAD NEWS

The bad news is that, as the recession is killing publishing, and illustrators are seeing fees shrink, super-rich Google tries to get them to work for free, dangling the lame "exposure" carrot. Thanks anyway, Google.

To cheer you up, the very awesome Mr. Scruff celebrates pie! Wheee!

Bonus smart design link: safe point-less knives.

THREE KILLER CARTOONS

Lady Play Your Mandolin (1931). That horse gets really loaded.

The Three Little Bops (1957). The crowd at the House of Bricks can really cut a rug.

CAPT. JAMES HOOK

This is an illustration for a school project. I envisioned the book "Peter Pan" as told from Hook's perspective, as the hero. This is the cover illustration sans text. India ink & watercolor, 9"x12"-ish.

REMIXED DISNEY

There's this guy that uses audio and video samples of Disney movies in his electronica tracks. Beautiful stuff: "Alice" & "Expialidocious".
