These portraits of masqueraders build on Galembo's work of the past twenty years photographing the rituals and religious culture in Nigeria, Brazil, Cuba, Jamaica and Haiti, as well as the homegrown custom of Halloween in the United States."

... is on the cover of the new Uncut magazine. Last month was Kate Bush. If Led Zeppelin or Frank Zappa appear next month I may have to buy shares or something (as a show of support - I'm not actually buying these). The article is about his 1976 Station to Station album, which melded pop with stark Euro proto-industrial sounds. It's kind of bleak and soulful at the same time. On left is a pic (from 1975-ish) appearing in the mag. Great look. Bowie is generally pretty stylin.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Kate on the cover of Uncut, which celebrates the 25 year anniversary of her masterpiece 1984 album the Hounds of Love. It blew my mind when I first heard it years ago and it permanently lodged itself in my top 10 (or 5 or 1, depending on my mood). It is an artist at the peak of her abilities, writing, playing, singing and producing her ass off. Its a crazy mash of piano, drum machines, choirs, samples, cellos, guitars, celtic instruments and on and on. She was 19 when her first album came out in 77 and she was pressured into doing a kind of exploitive photo shoot. From then on she took total control of her career: she built her own music studio, her brother took all her pictures, she stopped touring, rarely does interviews, and puts out albums with glacier speed. Her name gets dropped by people like Bjork, OutKast, Bloc Party, Prince etc etc. So she's basically a genius and kind of a weirdo, and a hero of mine for sure. Here are a few songs of hers for you to peep.       Go buy Hounds of Love.
